Choosing your tank level monitoring equipment

Start with the information you need from your tank: local level indication, a reading at a separate location, alarm and control outputs, or remote access to inventory data. Then select the sensor, gauge and accessories around the tank arrangement and system requirements.

Gauge packages and controllers

  • VEGASYS Gauge Packages: Packaged gauge systems with radar or submerged hydrostatic sensor options. This department also provides routes to VEGASYS spares and accessories, Metron remote web access for 4–20 mA gauges and sensors, and connection accessories.
  • VEGA Gauge Consoles & Controllers: Individual VEGAMET controllers for displaying measurements and providing configured control outputs. The range includes the single-input VEGAMET 841 and 861, and the dual-input VEGAMET 842 and 862. Choose according to sensor signals, input numbers and the outputs your system requires.

Radar level sensors

Radar sensors measure the liquid surface without a submerged probe. The wired ranges provide two connection arrangements, while the battery-powered range offers a separate route to wireless monitoring.

  • VEGA Wire-ready Radar Level Sensors: VEGAPULS 11 and 21 sensors for connection to site wiring. Consider these where the cable route and length need to be selected for the installation.
  • VEGA Pre-wired Radar Level Sensors: VEGAPULS C 11 and C 21 sensors supplied with an attached cable. Check the cable length and termination arrangement alongside the required measuring range and output.
  • Wireless Battery Radar Tank Gauge Systems: VEGAPULS Air 41 sensors combine battery power with wireless transmission for remote tank monitoring. Selection should account for network coverage, reporting frequency and the required telemetry service.

Pressure and capacitance level sensors

These departments provide alternatives for different tank connections and measurement arrangements. Select the sensor around the liquid, tank depth, mounting position and required signal.

  • HUBA Pressure Level Sensors: A separate pressure-sensor range to consider when specifying a new gauge arrangement or identifying a replacement. Check the particular sensor's pressure range, connection and electrical output against the application.
  • VEGA Pressure Level Sensors (submerged): In-tank pressure sensors for submerged level measurement. Tank depth, liquid density, wetted materials and cable requirements are key selection details.
  • VEGA Wire-ready Pressure Level Sensors (tank side or bottom mount): VEGABAR 28 pressure sensors for measurement through a tank-side or bottom connection. Select the pressure range and process connection to match the tank arrangement.
  • VEGA Capacitance Level Sensors (for very shallow tanks): VEGACAL 63 rod probes provide a capacitance-based option for shallow-tank applications. Check probe length, mounting clearance and liquid properties before selecting a variant.

Remote displays, adjustment devices and accessories

  • VEGA Remote 4–20 mA Displays: Separate readouts for viewing measurements at a convenient location, such as near the tank or fill point. Match the display to the signal loop and the information you need to show.
  • Interchangeable Display & Adjustment Device: Display and setup equipment for compatible instruments. Check the host instrument and module requirements when adding a display or selecting a replacement.
  • Communications Cable, Encapsulation Kits and Probe Risers: Supporting products include shielded single- and double-pair cable, cable-joint encapsulation kits, probe risers and riser caps. This department also links to cable entries, glands and junction boxes.

What to check before choosing a tank gauge

  • Tank and liquid: Identify the stored liquid, tank height, shape, capacity, available connections and any internal obstructions.
  • Measurement arrangement: Establish whether you need non-contact radar, a submerged sensor, a side- or bottom-mounted pressure sensor, or a capacitance probe.
  • Display and control: Specify the number of sensors, preferred display locations, required readings, alarm functions and connections to other control equipment.
  • Power and communications: Confirm the available power, cable routes, required signal type and any wireless monitoring requirements.
  • Operating conditions: Provide temperature, pressure and any hazardous-area requirements so the appropriate product variants can be considered.

Help with product selection

For replacement components, include the existing instrument model and full part code. For a new arrangement, provide the tank details and required monitoring functions. PFS Fueltec can help with product selection and specification guidance based on the information you supply.
